This summer, many patients are visiting our office looking for cosmetic dentistry solutions that will help straighten their smiles. As your trusted cosmetic dentist in Sterling, VA, we are excited to offer patients Invisalign as an option for treating mild to moderate orthodontic concerns. Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces. If you’ve been considering pursuing Invisalign treatment, here are three good reasons to start your treatment this summer.
Invisalign will not interfere with your current smile aesthetics.
You don’t have to worry about the metallic aesthetics of traditional braces messing up your summer photos with Invisalign. With traditional braces, patients have to deal with the secure fastening of metal brackets and wires to their teeth surfaces. With Invisalign, however, hardly anyone will be able to tell that you are undergoing treatment unless you tell them so. Invisalign is a system of clear, plastic aligners that are worn over your teeth. Every few weeks, according to your treatment plan, you will change aligners for a new set. Over time, the aligners apply small amounts of pressure to your teeth to encourage them to shift into a straighter position.
Invisalign is removable.
Traditional braces are known for their inconvenient dietary restrictions. This is because excessively crunchy or chewy foods have been known to damage the metal brackets and wires, which interferes with your treatment progress. Additionally, you are required to take extra precautions in your oral hygiene routine with braces because of how often food residue gets stuck in them. With Invisalign, patients avoid these two major inconveniences because the aligners are removable. You are encouraged to remove your aligners when drinking, eating, or brushing your teeth. This means you can enjoy all of your favorite summer snacks while still undergoing orthodontic treatment. You can also just remove the aligners, brush, floss, and reapply–no extra steps required.
Invisalign requires less time in the dental chair.
Between vacation plans, special occasions, and general everyday activities, we understand you don’t have much time left to spend in the dental chair. With traditional braces, patients must visit the orthodontist often to get their wires tightened–otherwise, their treatment plan will not progress. However, with Invisalign, you are given all of your aligners upfront. As long as you follow your treatment plan, your teeth should begin to shift into their preferred positions. Our team will schedule periodic check-ups throughout your Invisalign treatment to ensure your smile is moving as projected. If necessary, we may make some adjustments to your treatment plan to ensure you get the best results. These appointments will not be nearly as frequent as they would be if you were being treated via traditional braces–meaning less time spent in the dental chair overall.
